DUTY OF COURT BAILIFF
Saheed Afeez Ayinde
Purposely the main objective of the court is to dispense untainted JUSTICE to the aggrieved with neither overtly nor covertly dispensed. Hence the court has the care to utilize all available elements including the court bailiffs in attaining the aimed justice.
Thence, court bailiffs have been saddled with their roles in ensuring the untainted JUSTICE whose failure to discharge will cause unnecessary delay in the administration of Justice
As stated in this case
Odutola Vs kayode (1996) 2 NWLRPer Olatawura, JSC (of blessed memory)
Where personal service is ordered, he must serve that person personally. Where a substituted service either by pasting at the last known abode of the person required to be served, or by publication in a newspaper is ordered, any other service which is not in accordance with the clear and unambiguous language of the Court is ineffectual.
Bailiffs are ofiicers of the Court. Any dereliction of duty in the discharge of their duties will cause unnecessary delay in the administration of justice. A false return of service on the part of the bailiff may lead to an attempt to deceive the Court. This in itself is an abuse of that order
